ABOUT THE PROJECT
With the addition of 10 new guest rooms, the Ronald McDonald House next to Lurie Children’s in Chicago now accommodates up to 80 families each night with comfortable beds, warm meals, and supportive hearts close to their child’s side. When guests reach the 7th floor of the newly expanded space, they’re greeted by an interactive donor wall featuring a sweet feathered family in a playful forest.
CHALLENGE
- Create a donor wall that coordinates with the new interior design of the expanded space
- Keep a simple, softer color palette
- Add a playful interactive component
- Convey the caring essence of Ronald McDonald House
Result: A Friendly Forest
We created a heartwarming transformation of the 7th-floor entrance. As you step out of the elevator, you’re greeted by a whimsical donor wall. A nest symbolizes a safe haven for families staying at the recently expanded house, while the birds represent parents caring for their children. Colors match the new rooms, and texture was added with 2D animals. For an interactive element, there’s an LED-lit kaleidoscope in the knot of the tree. The real magic was bringing in the talented Laura Huliska-Beith for design!
